Each year Kalunba, in conjunction with St. Columba’s Scottish Mission, holds a weeklong English day camp for youth aged 6-12 in the city. Children come from all walks of life – some are native Hungarian, others are immigrants, some are refugees, and others are Roma – to learn English and build community together. The week is filled with delicious food, plenty of songs, lots of crafts, and of course some language practice! Knowledge of English is not needed for kids to come and enjoy the camp; even if they do not speak English at the beginning, they will pick up some words during the week!
Staff at the camp varies as well – some are Hungarian while others are immigrants, and most of them are multilingual. A group from the United States will also be joining our camp this year as helpers, giving the children who attend the camp a unique opportunity to learn and practice their English skills with people from around the world.
The camp is free for children to attend (though donations are always appreciated!), and one snack and lunch are provided each day, but you must sign up in advance. It will take place from July 3-7, 2017 each day from 9:00-14:00 at the Scottish Mission Church. Stop by the Kalunba office to sign your kids up for the camp or get in touch with our staff if you have any further questions!
